Mueni Mutunga
Mueni is a Certified Secretary with over three decades of experience providing strategic leadership, legal advisory and corporate governance solutions to Boards and executive management across public and private institutions. She has an exceptional track record in strengthening Board effectiveness, driving ethical leadership and embedding governance best practices that enhance institutional performance and accountability. Renowned for her ability to align Board decision-making with regulatory frameworks, Mueni is recognized as a thought leader in governance reforms, institutional strengthening and Boardroom diplomacy.
During her tenure as Corporation Secretary and Director of Legal Services at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Mueni led governance and legal reforms that strengthened Board operations and improved efficiency. She streamlined Board and committee structures, guided the organization’s reclassification under the Public Service framework and pioneered the introduction of E-Board technology that made meetings more efficient and cost-effective. Before joining EPRA, Mueni served as Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services at the Kenya Wildlife Service where she advised the Board on governance and compliance, developed legal frameworks and safeguarded institutional assets. Over the course of her career, Mueni has served in several regional and professional leadership roles.
Mueni holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Oil and Gas Law from Strathmore University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Diploma in Legal Practice. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Secretaries and a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
