Mugambi, a Certified Secretary and Governance Auditor, who is also an experienced Commercial, Corporate Law and Governance practitioner, has earned himself a reputation as a client-centric professional.

He is one of Kenya’s leading Corporate M&A lawyers and has been ranked consecutively for 5 years by the prestigious Chambers Global.

With an impressive portfolio, Mugambi is a role model for many aspiring commercial lawyers and governance practitioners. With over 20 years of hands-on experience in corporate, legal, governance and company secretarial practice, his focus and resilience have earned him the trust of some of Kenya’s biggest corporates and high net worth individuals as a legal advisor and sounding board for strategic decisions.

An entrepreneur himself, Mugambi’ s strong technical and business qualifications have seen him gain immense accomplishments that have been fuelled by a need to help corporates thrive and function at their best capacity with the right governance. 

As a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, he is among a rare breed of dual qualified lawyers in Kenya.  He has extensive experience in corporate governance in both public and private entities, having worked as Group Head of Legal and Company Secretary for Stanbic Group (a member of the Standard Bank Group South Africa) and as a Legal Counsel for the East African Development Bank.

Mugambi has served as a Member of the Kenyatta University Council, Board Member of the Privatization Commission of Kenya, Communications Authority of Kenya, Seriani Asset Managers Limited, and Mayfair CIB Bank Limited. He has also worked with several institutions within the public sector including as Company Secretary to Uchumi Supermarkets Plc.

For over 20 years, he has been a member of good standing of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS), and has been involved in the drafting of the Secretarial standards for meetings of board of directors.  Mugambi has also been commended by the Council of the ICS for his outstanding contribution to the Institute and the profession. He was named Company Secretary of the Year 2011 by the Institute of Certified Secretaries.

His contribution to the implementation of the Kenya 10 Year Capital Markets Master Plan as a member of the Capital Markets Master Plan Implementation Committee and Co-Chairperson of Working Group 3, which reviews and recommends changes to the legal and regulatory environment in order to deepen capital markets in Kenya, earned him recognition from the Capital Markets Authority in 2019.

Mugambi, a qualified Advocate of the High Court of Kenya has an MBA from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Financial Management from ACCA.

In his free time, he enjoys travelling, practicing yoga, swimming, running, cycling and theatre.
